Development education through documentary films

The Watch and Change international project builds strongly on the long-term One World in Schools Program run by People in Need in cooperation with schools, which introduces the use of documentary films for development education in the Czech Republic. The outputs from this project have shown that documentary films are a key tool for raising awareness and stimulating the interest of young people in development issues. An important output of previous activities is a network of involved and actively cooperating schools which use documentary films and related methodological tools in teaching.
By the project Watch and Change, the PIN intends to share its existing experience and methodology with 3 new member states of the European Union in which a comparable status of awareness on global interdependence and development cooperation exists among the young people.
The project is implemented in cooperation with partner organisations People in Peril Assosiation in Slovakia, Centrum for citizenship education in Poland and Jaan Tonissoni Institute in Estonia.
The main objectives of the international Watch and Change project are:
- to increase awareness of young people regarding the development issues, which include poverty, education, child labour, AIDS, conflicts, migration and non-democratic regimes
- to strengthen understanding among young people of global contexts and global interdependence between North an d South
- to encourage young people to actively participate in solving these problems
- to actively contribute to development education in Czech Republic , Slovakia, Poland and Estonia
This project is funded by the European Union.
